Baroque Masterworks

Poster for Baroque Masterworks concert

On March 3 at St Nicholas Church Sevenoaks The Cantate Choir will be joined by the acclaimed period-instrument ensemble Vivace! in a concert titled Baroque Masterworks. The programme will include Handel's Dixit Dominus, written when he was only 22 and demonstrating all the exuberance of youth. By contrast Vivaldi's Magnificat is a work of his mature years as are the two Purcell pieces included in the programme Rejoice in the Lord Alway and Jehovah, Quam Multi Sunt Hostes.

The Choir will be joined by five outstanding young soloists, all of whom have successful careers on the operatic or concert stage. Sopranos Donna Bateman and Susan Gilmore-Bailey and bass James Gower have appeared regularly in concert with leading London orchestras, mezzo-soprano Julia Riley combines work on the London concert stage with opera performances which include Glyndebourne on Tour, tenor Charne Rochford made his Glyndebourne debut in 2005 and appeared in Kenneth Branagh's 2006 film adaptation of The Magic Flute.

The concert starts at 7.30 and tickets (£10 to include refreshments) are available from Sevenoaks Bookshop, 147 High Street, Sevenoaks or from the Cantate Box Office on 01892 545799.
