Press Release
Rachmaninov Vespers
As part of the Sevenoaks Festival The Cantate Choir will be performing Rachmaninov’s Vespers at St Mary’s Church Platt, Nr Borough Green on Saturday June 30 at 7.30pm.
The Vespers are among Rachmaninov’s best-loved music and are a setting of three Russian Orthodox services. Written for unaccompanied choir the music contains the rich sonority so typical of Russian liturgical music.
The concert will also feature the talents of Susie Winkworth (cello) and Costas Fotopoulos (piano) in Rachmaninov’s Sonata for Cello and Piano and other cello works including the well-known Vocalise. In a varied freelance career Susie combines solo performances with chamber works and recording. Costas works internationally as a concert pianist and specialises in providing live improvisations to silent films, not only at the National Film Theatre in London but also in New York and Europe.
Tickets are available at £10 from Sevenoaks Bookshop, High St, Sevenoaks, the Festival Box Office at Sevenoaks Tourist Information Office or from the Cantate Box Office on 01892 514860
