Renaissance Revealed

Concert - St Nicholas' Church, Sevenoaks on 5 March 2005

Poster for Renaissance Revealed concert in March 2005

A treat is in store for Sevenoaks audiences in an exciting sound-and-vision experience with The Cantate Choir's next concert Renaissance Revealed on 5th March, 2005, in St. Nicholas Church, at 8pm.

In this unusual concert the choir, conducted by Robin Walker, will be joined by the renowned period instrument group, The Sweelinck Ensemble, in a performance of glorious music consisting of works by Gabrieli, Monteverdi and Lotti, together with Allegri's famous Miserere with soaring soprano line. Tradition has it that although this piece was jealously guarded by the Papacy for a hundred years the young Mozart heard it and promptly wrote it down from memory for the rest of the world to enjoy.

Not only will the audience be given the opportunity of enjoying this sensuous music, but in association they will be treated to images of high art in Renaissance Italy - an amazing and prolific period - by means of state-of-the-art projection methods.

The Sweelinck Ensemble (violins, cornetto, sackbuts, chitterone and organ) were finalists in the 1999 York Early Music Network Competition and have since performed and recorded throughout the UK and Europe. Founder, Martin Knizia, educated in Germany and the Royal Academy of Music in London will be directing the ensemble.

Tickets, price £10, are available from Sevenoaks Bookshop, 147 London Road, Sevenoaks, The Cantate Box Office 01892 545799, or from choir members.
