Abendlied
Josef Rheinberger - (1839-1901)
Remembered but slightly for a body of organ works, Rheinberger was born in Liechtenstein and lived mainly in Munich. He had a highly successful career having entered the Academy of Music at the age of twelve. He was a virtuoso player of piano and organ but also became an opera promoter who worked with Wagner. Many of his students went on to even greater heights. This Abendlied is a gem of a setting for 6-part choir.
Bide with us for evening shadows darken and the day will soon be over.
